A new report from Communities for Quality Education (CQE) analyzes State of the State gubernatorial addresses between 2004-2008 and highlights specific education policy trends. The report shows that between 2004 and 2007, every governor who delivered a State of the State address stressed the importance of education to economic growth. In fact, no issue surrounding education has been focused on as much by governors in their State of the State addresses as the link between education and economic prosperity.

Our Mission
Communities for Quality Education, a national education advocacy group, seeks to build a partnership between people inside and outside the education community who share the common goal of building better public schools for every child. Our immediate focus is working with groups and individuals who share our concerns about the so-called No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law and how it is being implemented. Our long-term goal is to have a much broader dialogue about the continuing public policy agenda for public schools.
On November 6th, Utah voters resoundingly rejected Referendum 1, the flawed voucher law, by a 62/38 margin statewide. Referendum 1 failed in every county in Utah a clear signal that Utah voters want a meaningful investment in public schools. CQE joined Utahns for Public Schools in an unprecedented education and turn-out campaign.
Two-thirds of all Democratic voters and over half (60%) of all Republican voters see providing all children with the opportunity for a quality education as the most important measure to improve the future for American youth.
CQE hosted a roundtable discussion between South Carolina Superintendent of Education Jim Rex and a group of SC high school students. The students shared their top education concerns and then submitted that concern via YouTube to the Presidential candidates in advance of the July 23rd primary debate.
CQE has compiled the most comprehensive study of organizations' recommendations for positive changes to the No Child Left Behind law (NCLB) and a framework for raising student achievement and improving schools. The findings illustrate strong consensus on what works to transform public education across a diverse range of stakeholders.
CQE has identified efforts in all 50 states to take action to fix No Child Left Behind since 2003.
